The department of Chimestry stands as one of the pioneering departments within the college, established in the academic year 2004. Since its inception, it has evolved into a prestigious academic unit within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Mizda. Our core philosophy is centered on continuous development, excellence, and innovation. To uphold this mission, we strictly adhere to both nationally and internationally accredited standards across our academic programs. Our primary objective is to promote the quality of educational and training outcomes, fostering a generation of advanced cadres. We strive to provide our students with the scientific knowledge and practical training necessary to meet societal needs, assume professional responsibilities, and effectively navigate the challenges of the labor market. The department reached a siginificant milestone by graduating its inaugural cohort during the academic year 2007- 2008.
Description
The undergraduate program in the department of Chimestry spans four academic years, Organized into eight semesters. Students are required to complete a total of 55 courses, amounting to 142 Credit units, these credits are distributed as follows: 178 contact hours, 147 Credit hours dedicated to specialized core courses in various fields of chemistry. 31 credit hours allocated to general university requirements and elective courses offered by the department. The curriculum utilizes A balanced pedagogical approaches, blending theoretical classroom instruction with intensive practical laboratory training. Upon the successful completion of all requiredcoursework and academic components, The department of chemistry awards the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry.

Chimestry Department is trying to achieve a preeminent standing among national and regional departments of Chimestry through superiority in education, specialized chemical training, and academic leadership. We aspire to head scientific research in the field of chemical sciences , and provide impactful community services for the Libyan society.

The mission of the department is to cultivate highly qualified researchers equipped with the capacity for innovation and creative problem 'solving. We are committed to addressing scientific challenges that contribute to socio' economic development and to providing expert scientific leadership across the several disciplines of chemistry.

The department aims to:
- Provide high-quality academic instruction and cultivate a specialized scientific cadres proficient in the various fields of chemical science.
- Enhance students comprehension of modern chemical concepts and techniques, while equipp them with the scientific and technical competencies necessary for societal service and competitive integration into local and regional labor markets.
- Produce distinguished graduates characterized by professional excellence and scientific proficiency, possess a comprehensive awareness of contemporary environmental and societal issues, the ability to propose innovative solutions, and the aptitude to work effectively across diverse scientific sectors, research centre's, environmental health agencies, and petroleum companies.
- Organize diverse scientific activities, including seminars, specialized training courses, panel discussions, and professional workshops.
- Contribute to the resolution of scientific challenges that impact environmental sustainability and community welfare.
- Foster the exchange of expertise and scientific competencies with similar departments within the university of Gharyan, as well as with other libyan and regional Universities.
